Parent Awareness Meeting for Coastal Girls on STEM and ICT Empowerment: Perikhali Model Secondary School, Rampal, Bagerhat

An awareness-raising session was conducted at Perikhali Model Secondary School, Rampal, Bagerhat, as part of the project titled "STEM & ICT Skills for Girls of Coastal Areas" (SISGCA) On November 22, 2023. The Bangladesh Open Source Network organized the event. It aimed to inform parents about the project's impact on their daughters' education. The school headmaster, Committee members, Regional coordinator, school teachers, and 51 guardians attended the session.

The SISGCA project is a two-year initiative funded by The Malala Fund and implemented by the Bangladesh Freedom Foundation in association with BdOSN. The project aims to reduce the digital divide among secondary school girls in three coastal areas of Bangladesh by providing them easy access to smart devices and bringing positive change among girls and community people regarding STEM education and ICT careers.

Headteacher Shankar Kumar Sikder started the meeting with a warm welcome and insightful remarks. He emphasized the school's dedication to providing top-notch education while highlighting the crucial role of technology in achieving this goal. His words resonated with the audience, setting the stage for an engaging dialogue.

Regional Project Coordinator Inzamamul Haque then took the spotlight, diving deeper into the captivating world of STEM and ICT education. He shed light on the project's activities and its immense potential for students, equipping them with valuable skills and fostering a love for learning.

The heart of the event, however, unfolded during the open discussion. Parents eagerly voiced their questions and shared their observations. They spoke of their children's newfound curiosity and excitement towards science, a testament to the project's success in sparking young minds. Their positive feedback and heartfelt appreciation left no doubt about the growing interest in STEM and ICT education within the families.

The meeting culminated in a wave of support from teachers, parents, and school management committee members. The project's vision was further crystallized, and a renewed sense of purpose emerged. With everyone on board and brimming with enthusiasm, the stage is set for accelerated learning and exciting progress in the days to come.

This Teachers-Parents Meeting wasn't just an informative session; it was a celebration of learning, a shared commitment to innovation, and a glimpse into the bright future that awaits the students of Perikhali Model Secondary School.
