Course on Scratch Program Ends Successfully

Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) conducted 1 month long basic scratch programming for high school students. The purpose was teaching a hands-on activity on how to create basic scratch program. 12 students from different schools in Dhaka took this course. Starting from April, the course ended yesterday successfully. The general secretary of BdOSN Mr. Munir Hasan was present at the closing ceremony.

Though programming, still the classes were very interactive. The trainers developed the classes in a very interactive way like teaching with stories, songs, dances and all. The syllabus covered Sprite Movement, Variable, Control Statement, Custom Block, Game, Introduction to Python and etc. The students engaged themselves to their highest to the program.

The parents were very eager to teach their kids programming. Their interest and inspiration were very remarkable throughout the course. Ms. Farzana Mir, a parent of a participant said excitedly, ‘ I am very happy seeing my daughter adding sound to cat, motion to balloon and so on. Thanks to BdOSN for taking this initiative. We are looking forward to the advanced programming course’.

The trainers were very happy taking the classes. Ms. Shakila Mahjabin, Lecturer of CSE at East West University shared ‘There is a great potential among the kids. If they are given enough supports, they will do milestones in programing in future.

Previously, different one day long programming events were arranged from BdOSN. The students showed interests in those events were selected as the participants of this course.

Sharmin Kabir, Program Officer of BdOSN shared that they have more plan with the kids to teach coding. Separate programming session for Bangla and English medium students will be organized. Also, advanced course will be launched from this organization.

A closing project display will be held after Eid with the presence of distinguished minds to inspire the kids in programming.
