Two Bangladeshi Women are Selected as CS Faculty of Dartmouth College

Two Bangladeshi women are selected as CS faculty of Dartmouth College. Dr. Sarah Masud Preum and Shagufta Mehnaz is joining this world-famous university as CS Faculty this year.

Dartmouth College is a private, Ivy League university located in Hanover, New Hampshire. Its undergraduate college is home to more than 40 departments and programmes, while it also has graduate schools of Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Engineering, and Business. In the year 2020, this college is ranked 94th in world university ranking.

Dr. Sarah Masud Preum is PhD candidate in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Virginia (UVa). She develops data-driven, knowledge-integrated information extraction and fusion systems to provide personalized decision support for safety-critical, resource-constrained cyber-physical systems (CPS). Her research focuses on (i) aligning and modeling multi-modal, unstructured data streams generated and captured by pervasive systems, (ii) extracting semantic and contextual information from these different data streams, and (iii) efficiently integrating relevant domain knowledge to provide personalized decision support to the end-users.

Dr. Sarah Masud Preum completed her Bachelor’s degree from the Department of CSE, BUET in 2013 and served as a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). She completed her Master’s in Computer Science at UVa in 2015.

Another selected CS member is Shagufta Mehnaz. She is a Ph.D. candidate in the Computer Science department at Purdue University. Her current research interests include Information Security & Privacy, Privacy-preserving Machine Learning, and Intrusion Detection Systems.

She has received her BSc. in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) from Bangladesh University of Engineering and technology (BUET) and MSc. in Computer Science from Purdue University. Before starting Ph.D., she worked as a lecturer in the department of CSE at BUET.
